The editors go over the newspapers and the Editor heads need to go over the final copy of the newspaper making sure that everything is in the right place, also checking the spelling and for any errors and improvements before the paper is sent out to print. In the Northcliffe house all the advertising is done, the advertising teams need to contact different business asking seeing if they want an advert to be placed in the next paper. They also have to go over the paper and choose where all the adverts could be placed within the newspaper making sure that there isn’t any free space that is being wasted.
Printing
The information is than sent out to the Hormsworth Printing Plant in Essex at around 10:30pm. They than get ready to print the newspaper making sure to check all the pages and making sure that everything is alright. The prints for the newspaper are than laser cut into metal which will than be used to put over the paper, printing out the text on the metal. Each press creates a whole newspaper, every second there are 20 newspapers made per each press. After the papers are printed they are automatically placed into blocks of newspaper, which is done to organize the papers, which are than zip tied into those blocks making sure they don’t fall apart while in the truck. After being organized the blocks of papers are than placed into trucks which transport them to the distribution centers.
Distribution
The trucks then deliver the papers to all the different wholesalers which than put the papers in their place ready for the opening of the shop. The newspapers are also delivered to smaller stores which than have paperboys who will deliver the papers to people who have a subscription with the paper. The stores are than ready to open and people are free to buy them and read until another comes out the next day going through the same long process. The Daily mail reaches 50,000 retailers as well as 82 wholesalers, making 2.4 million newspapers per day. These newspapers are delivered throughout the country due to this 165,000 miles are driven each day to deliver these newspapers.
